Behind every fish is a woman’s tear

The force eight blast of sunshine did not last that long, it disappeared under a torrential shower of rain. However in typical Scots fashion we waited five more minutes and a different weather came along!
Our travels took us to the top end of the Shetland mainland to a small village near the Sullom Voe oil terminal where there stood a memorial to the Delting disaster, when seven small boats set out for the fishing grounds off Yell, only to get caught out in a sudden storm, killing 22 men, leaving 15 widows, ripping the heart of the local fishing community, so much so that it never recovered.
We take our fish suppers very much for granted but one must never forget that behind every fish is a woman’s tear.
